SEO And Inner Pages
The niche which you choose for your website is important and the root URL should also be taken into consideration when attempting to SEO your website, but one over looked aspect of SEO that webmasters sometimes miss is utilizing SEO with their sub or inner pages. Each and every page including your root or index can be SEOd to become landing pages and if you spend the time building links they can rank in Google and other major search engines for their own keywords. If you spend the time on all of your site rather than just your main page then your sub pages can bring in more traffic than the main page of your website. You can truly dominate an entire niche by ranking sub pages for all the keywords and terms within the niche. This usually takes years to do, but if you work hard and stay with it for enough time then you can sit on top of Google for every keyword within your niche.
To begin you will need to decide on which niche you are going to attempt to dominate. Personally right now I am working in the “make money online” so I will use keywords within this niche for examples. For my home page I decided to go with a big keyword one that has a couple hundred thousand searches monthly which is “make money online”. That is the keyword that I optimized my home page for and since I build the majority of my links towards the main page then as I build sub pages I make sure to optimize them for different keywords. For one of the pages I went with the keyword “get paid to take surveys” which I am ranked well for. It does not have nearly the same amount of traffic nor the same amount of competition. The reason why I choose the keywords is they were worth going after and once I made it to the front page I got a steady stream of traffic from the keywords.
If you want to rank a sub page well it will take more than a few thousand backlinks. You will need to optimize the meta title and description. Once you have the keyword in these two then you will also need to put the keyword in the headings and a few times throughout your content. You should do this with every page that will make a suitable landing page. A landing page is a sub or inner page that if someone were to come in from a search engine they would first know what the page is about and second be able to navigate from the page around the rest of the website. After you optimize the sub page (title, description, headings, and content) you will need to start building links towards the sub page. The links should have the keywords between the anchor text that you want to rank well for. Do this will all your sub pages making sure the keywords have a decent amount of search volume.
