Formatting Your Computer – How To

April 18th, 2010

It’s sometimes necessary to format a pc in cases such as when the computer has crashed, when you may have viruses or spyware and adware, or when you wish to increase your computer’s booting speed. The method of formatting a computer is very simple and for those who learn how to format computer, you will save money since you will not need a professional. The first step in knowing how to format a computer is backing up the data because, though it is possible to make use of knowledge-restoration software packages to recover formatted knowledge, this can be a big hustle. You should also backup the drivers if they are saved in your laptop or if you’re formatting a laptop and don’t have the original driver CD. Drivers are tough to find and formatting a pc without considering this may trigger you untold headache. You may backup your data and drivers on CDs, DVDs, or external hard drives.

After backing up the data, the next step in formatting your computer is to right-click on ‘My Computer’. That can be accomplished from the start menu or from the desktop. In case your HDD only has one partition, you can merely click on the ‘Format’ option. Nevertheless, if your HDD is segmented, you must target specific partitions for formatting. Click on the ‘Manage’ tab and then choose the ‘Pc Management’ option. Next, click on the ‘Storage’ choice and under it choose ‘Disk Management’. That will give you a list of all of the HDDs and in your laptop and their partitions. From the ‘Disk Management’, you will also be able to determine the ‘health’ of the different partitions and the file system. The file system is vital because the knowledge is required in the process of formatting. The system is either NTFS or FAT32.

The next step to format a computer is to mainframe the pc screen’s right side. This offers you a better view of the HDDs and their partition – that eliminates the risk of formatting the wrong drive or partition. For those who simply need to format one partition, simply right-click on it and click on the ‘Format’ option. If you wish to merge different partitions after the formatting, click on the ‘Delete Partition’ tab for all partitions. If you get warning signs on pop-up windows, click on the ‘Yes’ tab.

After this step, you’ll get a black bar saying ‘Unallocated’. The next step is to click on that bar and to choose the new option. A set up wizard will take you through the set up process. The pc will decide a new letter for the HDD. You’ll be able to change that letter on the menu.

Lastly, the last step to formatting your PC is to choose between the NTFS or the FAT32 file systems and click on ‘format’. Do not change what is indicated within the ‘Disk Management’ tab. The NTFS system is safer in the event you anticipate a virus problem and it’s faster. You’ll know that the process is complete when the partition or the HDD provides you a ‘healthy’ status.

Nofollow and the golden rule

October 30th, 2009

SEO can be an intimidating process!

Learning new tricks and keeping up with ever changing trends can consume much of your time and or much of your budget.

One thing I have learned is that when it comes to SEO , the playing field is actually quite level. The small time designer can compete with the giant corporations! or…can they?!

The No Follow link was introduced around 2005 to help fight spam from “hijacking” search engine bots (so they say). Google, MSN & Yahoo united in support of the nofollow link attributes.

A major consequence of this, that most people need to understand is the fact that while millions of blogs and sites use social networking links to promote their content, through the use of nofollow, the favor is often not returned.

So basically we give some of these big sites their rank and status for almost nothing in return!

Consequence? One example,

Bookmark your new site “mynewsite.com” at “stumbleupon.com”. If you google  ”mynewsite.com”, The “stumbleupon.com” page with no content but the link and title will be on top, while your site with the actual content that you searched for will be below. Imagine the effect this PageRank capitalization has when you search for things other than your own site?!

We need to realize that this page rank concentration process is taking the hard work of millions of bloggers and handing the benefits to these “user contribution built social giants”!

So how can we once again level the playing field you ask?

I believe in the golden rule! Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

If you use wordpress, as millions of bloggers do. Download nofollow reciprocity plugins and give these social giants a reason to reconsider their nofollow strategy.

If you use social networking icon links on your website, be sure to download the no follow version.

I will be compiling a list of the most popular bookmarking sites that do, & do not use nofollow by default.

If you would like to help out and you know of sites I should list please comment or send me an email.
