FTP stands for “File Transfer Protocol”

The interface for this system of uploading, and downloading files from a server is generally contained in a “graphical interface” or FTP program. Some examples of common use are joomla & wordpress users who need a way of uploading large template files, plugins & components ect.

For this type of user, A great & easy solution is a free program called FileZilla.

If you know how to navigate folders & drag and drop on your PC, then you already know how to use this program.

Download FileZilla Here!

Your Web Host or webmaster who set up your CMS, blog or website should have or will provide you with your FTP info

Generally this will be the following Example:

UserName ex.: steveweb

Password ex.: *********

Ftp Hostname and/or Ip ex.: www.yourdomain.com or  63.211.221.205

Port: 21

With this information close at hand,

you are now ready to start uploading those templates and large files.

Once you have installed FileZilla

You will need to fill out your FTP information to connect to your server or site.

Fill out your FTP Information

Fill out your FTP Information

Once you have connected to your server you will see a “local site” pane (your computers drives and folders)

And you will see a “Remote Site” pane (Your server or website)

After this its as easy as navigating to your file on the left & dragging and dropping to the folder you wish on the right!
