This short tutorial will explain all the settings when creating a new article in Joomla

Open article manager

Open article manager

Select article to edit or click "new article"

Select article to edit or click "new article"

Now you should have an article open in front of you, lets go over all the settings and what they accomplish.

These settings will change where and how your article will be displayed

These settings will change where and how your article will be displayed

1.Title The name of the article. (settings for show title below)

2. Alias The CMS system name for the article and part of the link or URL for the page. leave this blank and Joomla will fill it in for you.  The default alias is the Title in lower case with hyphens instead of spaces between words.  If you do enter the Alias yourself,  it must not contain capital letters or blank spaces (use a hyphen instead).

3. Section

4. Published This option is one of the ways Joomla allows whether or not the article is visible to your site’s visitors.  If you don’t want website visitors to see the article right now, check the “No” button for “Published”.

5. Front Page allows you to control the content on the home page of your site.  If you want the article to appear on the front page of your site, then click the “Yes” button for “Front Page”.

6. Category This is a sub-category of  Section. For “Category” you can choose a pre-set up category for this article form the drop-down list.  If you chose “Uncategorized” for the Section, then the Category will automatically be “Uncategorized”. See: setting up catagorys & sections in joomla.

Lets move on now to the settings down the right hand side of your window.
